The movie Wolf of Wall Street sensationalized in many ways an era of business that is dead and soon to be gone. The over zealous, overly confident, audacious business professional portrayed in that film is an afterthought, and is being replaced with a new breed of entrepreneurs, and they’re going to take over the world because they listen.
Yes introverts are the new breed of wildly successful entrepreneurs. The global marketplace has left us with a business environment where you can sit behind a computer and run an empire. The board room is a thing of the past and is being replaced by a MacBook, a pair of headphones, and an over priced cup of coffee.
Here are three reasons Introverts are taking over the world:
- They Listen.
Extroverts usually revolve the conversation around them, and when others are talking they are usually thinking of the next thing they will say in response and try to drive the conversation back to and around them. They are used to being the center of attention and this is the environment that they need to create to thrive.
Introverts on the other hand listen closely to what others are saying. They take in important details and also learn other people’s idiosyncrasies, making them more knowledgeable on important topics and better managers.
The more you listen, the more you learn. The more you learn, the more you can achieve.
Listening to others can be a learned skill, but it’s a skill nonetheless, and something that is much more inherent to introverts. In a world where you can no longer throw your weight around and expect results, paying attention to others is a skill that is vital to decision making, managing others, and personal growth.
- They’re perceptive
Because introverts view the world and take it in, rather than functioning with all eyes on them, they gain a unique perspective. Having a different, outside view of the world that is gained from listening and paying attention to others allows them to spot trends before they happen, better predict markets, and see opportunity where others may not see it. The biggest startups in the world are built on the ability to perceive and spot a major consumer problem or need before anyone else does, and also gives them the ability to scale their startup more quickly as a result of their unique perspective of the world that allows for a mind that more readily spots opportunity.
- They delegate
Generally, introverts have less ego because they do not seek the attention that many extroverts desire. This gives them the ability to delegate certain responsibilities and duties to other’s who are capable and many times more capable of handling them. The introvert builds their company around their own weaknesses and has no problem sharing responsibilities. This creates an environment more conducive for productivity, a happier, more fulfilled workforce and team, a more efficient company, and a more trusted leader.
